The Jordan Renewable Energy Fund (JREEEF), operating under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, has achieved significant milestones since its inception in 2015. With a strategic focus on promoting renewable energy and enhancing energy efficiency across various sectors, the fund has played a pivotal role in Jordan’s commitment to sustainable development.
The strategic plan of JREEEF aligns with the Ministry’s goal of increasing the contribution of renewable energy sources to electricity generation by 31% by 2030. Additionally, the fund aims to rationalize energy consumption, improve efficiency by 9%, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 31%. Notably, the plan extends to expanding the use of solar water heaters nationwide.
JREEEF’s initiatives span partnerships with national institutions, international donor organizations, programs, and the Jordanian private sector. Over the years, the fund has invested its resources to design and implement programs and projects benefiting over 2 million citizens in various regions of the Kingdom.
The impact of JREEEF’s efforts includes energy savings exceeding 75.3 gigawatts/hour, cost savings of over 16.8 million Jordanian dinars, and a substantial reduction of over 97 kilotons/year in carbon dioxide emissions.
Key achievements across sectors include:
Household Sector:
Installation of 33,000 solar water heater systems.
Deployment of 8,440 solar cell systems in collaboration with 200 local community-based organizations.
Replacement of 206,000 energy-efficient LED lighting units in houses through the three electricity distribution companies.
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Sector:
Signing of 100 joint tripartite cooperative agreements with the Amman Chamber of Industry.
Conducting 46 energy audit studies for factories and 30 similar studies for hotels.
Implementation of energy efficiency procedures for 12 hotels in Aqaba.
Government and Public Buildings:
Conducting 24 energy audit studies in government buildings.
Installation of solar photovoltaic systems for 602 houses of worship (masjids and churches).
Schools Initiative:
Implementation of a governmental schools heating and cooling project for 136 schools.
Installation of solar photovoltaic systems, replacement of 45,097 energy-efficient LED lighting units, and deployment of solar water heater systems in schools.
Public Institutions:
Support for 15 public institutions, including orphanages, centers for people with special needs, and the elderly, through the installation of solar photovoltaic systems.
Municipalities Program:
Design and implementation of a program supporting the installation of solar photovoltaic systems for 29 municipalities in 2023, with ongoing efforts for the remaining 70 municipalities in 2024-2025.
Health Centers:
Provision of support and funding to governmental health centers by installing solar photovoltaic systems for heating and cooling needs, targeting 14 health centers across three regions in 2023.
Agricultural Projects:
Signing a joint cooperation agreement with the Agricultural Credit Corporation to support financing the installation, connection, and operation of solar photovoltaic energy systems for pilot agricultural projects for small farmers.
Training Programs:
Provision of training programs in renewable energy and energy efficiency for 2,044 individuals, including male and female trainees, engineers, employees of public and private sectors, electricity distribution companies, industrial facilities, municipalities, health centers, and fund employees.In collaboration with international donors such as USAID, the European Union, and the Canadian government, JREEEF has successfully raised awareness for approximately 165 million citizens, achieving a 77% exposure rate to implemented awareness programs and campaigns.
