Work Detail In the presence of His Excellency, Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, representatives from a joint venture between Imerys, a global leader in mineral-based specialty solutions for industries, and Al Zayani Industries, along with Yellow Door Energy (YDE), a leading sustainable energy provider for businesses in the Middle East and Africa, inaugurated a 4.7 MW solar power plant today. This initiative contributes to Bahrain’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2060. The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of dignitaries and senior representatives from Imerys, Al Zayani Investments, Yellow Door Energy, and Midal Solar, the appointed contractor for the project, as well as employees of the white fused alumina production plant. The solar power system comprises rooftop, ground-mount, and car park solar panels, totaling over 8,600 units, generating 4.7 MW of power annually. This output of 7,600 MWh of clean energy per year will lead to a reduction of 5,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to over 15% of the plant’s emissions. Imerys Al Zayani, through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), not only achieves substantial electricity cost savings but also significantly enhances its environmental impact. This initiative aligns with the company’s sustainability goals and Bahrain’s broader Net Zero objectives. Yellow Door Energy, as the solar developer, is responsible for financing, designing, building, commissioning, operating, and maintaining the solar plant for the duration of the PPA. Through collaborations with solar developers like Yellow Door Energy, leading businesses can reduce their energy costs without upfront investment or operational risk, enabling them to focus on their core business while benefiting from clean energy. Alessandro Dazza, Imerys Chief Executive Officer, expressed his delight in inaugurating Imerys’ first solar plant in the region, emphasizing the company’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and developing low-carbon products for customers. Khalid Rashid Al Zayani, Honorary Chairman of Al Zayani Investments and Chairman of Imerys Al Zayani, highlighted the significance of the inauguration coinciding with the alumina plant’s 10th anniversary, emphasizing Al Zayani’s commitment to investing in innovative and sustainable projects that enhance the local economy. Rory McCarthy, Chief Operating Officer of Yellow Door Energy, expressed honor in partnering with Imerys Al Zayani to support their ambitious sustainability program and carbon reduction targets. This collaboration marks Yellow Door Energy’s fourth commissioned project in Bahrain, contributing to the Kingdom’s transition to clean energy and its Net Zero by 2060 Initiative. Rashid H Al Zayani, Managing Director of Midal Solar, expressed pride in celebrating this milestone with Imerys Al Zayani, emphasizing Midal Solar’s purpose to provide sustainable energy solutions to commercial and industrial organizations. Today’s inauguration represents a significant step in reducing emissions and contributing to Bahrain’s Net Zero commitment by 2060, with further solar capacity expansion planned.
