Work Detail Canon Inc. announced that in FY2023, all power usage across five manufacturing locations among four companies—Canon Suzhou Inc., Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Thang Long Factory and Tien Son Factory), Canon Hi-Tech Thailand Ltd. (Ayutthaya Factory), and Canon Prachinburi Thailand Ltd.—was converted to renewable energy. These sites produce Canon’s printing products such as office multifunctional devices, home inkjet printers, and large-format inkjet printers. Canon aims to transition 100% of power usage at its printing product manufacturing sites to renewable energy. Solar panels have been installed at some sites to generate renewable energy used in production activities. Notably, Canon Vietnam’s Thang Long Factory generates approximately 18% of its power from solar panels, covering an area of approximately 39,000m² with a generation capacity of 4.48 MW, installed in July 2022. In addition to solar panel installations, Canon acquired renewable energy certificates (RECs) to ensure the environmental value of renewable energy. This enabled the conversion of 100% of power usage in FY2023 at five manufacturing locations to renewable energy. Consequently, the percentage of renewable energy usage at final assembly sites for printing products, including these five locations, rose to approximately 39.5% in 2023, marking a 5.8 percentage point increase from 2022. Canon plans to further promote the procurement of green energy in 2024 by installing additional solar panels and increasing renewable energy usage rates. Canon remains committed to utilizing renewable energy and contributing to the realization of a sustainable society. Initiatives for achieving net-zero CO2 emissions have been a priority for Canon since 1988, aligning with its corporate philosophy of kyosei. The company has aimed for an annual average improvement of 3% in lifecycle CO2 emissions per product since 2008, achieving a cumulative improvement of 44.4% by 2023. By 2030, Canon targets a 50% reduction in emissions from the 2008 baseline, with the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions across product lifecycles by 2050 through collaborative efforts with society.
