Work Detail Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), under the leadership of its Chairman and Managing Director N Balram, has announced an ambitious renewable energy project in Telangana. In a significant move towards sustainable energy, SCCL is set to install solar power plants with a combined capacity of 800 MW on the Lower Manair Dam and the Mallanna Sagar reservoir, following approval from the state government. During a power sector review meeting on Saturday, Balram revealed that SCCL, already a contributor to solar energy with 234 MW plants across its mining regions, is poised to significantly increase its solar capacity. The initiative includes the creation of a 300 MW floating solar facility on the Lower Manair Dam and a substantial 500 MW solar plant on the Mallanna Sagar reservoir. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Lower Manair Dam project is complete, and SCCL will soon request state government permission to commence construction. Additionally, Balram has instructed officials to expedite the DPR for two 250 MW floating solar plants planned for the Mallanna Sagar reservoir. This expansion not only underlines Singareni’s commitment to renewable energy but also supports the company’s plan to augment its existing 1200 MW Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP) in Mancherial district with an 800 MW unit, further enhancing its power generation capabilities.
