A new tender would be held for the work of the bridge with Porto Xavier
Media from the neighboring country of Brazil announced that the construction of the bridge between San Javier and Porto Xavier will require a new tender.
According to information provided from Brasilia, a new competition will be held to determine which company will be in charge of carrying out the bridge work. This is because the two firms that had won the tender decided to abandon the project due to budget differences and judicial problems.
The president of the Association of Municipalities of Missões (AMM), Auri Kochhann, explained that the new bidding process would only take place in April or May. Therefore, the construction of the bridge could not start this year as expected.
This is one of the most anticipated works by the residents of both banks. It is more than 40 years ago that a group of people from San Javier (Argentina) and Porto Xavier (Brazil) began to dream that at that point on the border, between both countries, there would be an international bridge that would facilitate transit over the Uruguay River. At the moment, the crossing is done by raft, both there and at other nearby passes, such as Alba Posse-Porto Mauá.
Both the state and private sectors consider that the work will attract significant investments to accompany the greater infrastructure that the area will have. And a greater exchange of merchandise is also expected when it is completed, which will strengthen the economy of the region. |
