Work Detail HDB Singapore Awards SolarNova 8 Tender To Sunseap Leasing For 130 MWp Solar Panels Installation The Housing & Development Board (HDB) has granted its largest solar leasing tender to Sunseap Leasing, part of EDP Renewables APAC, under the SolarNova program. This initiative encompasses the installation of solar panels on approximately 1,075 HDB blocks and 101 government sites, with a solar capacity of 130 megawatt-peak (MWp), surpassing earlier estimates. The SolarNova 8 tender also introduces a novel advanced technology, developed in collaboration with EtaVolt, to extend the lifespan of solar panels by 4 to 5 years. For the first time in the SolarNova program, the latest tender incorporates an advanced regeneration technology for solar panels. Developed by EtaVolt, this patented technology utilizes intense light to re-energize solar cells and repair them at the molecular level, extending each panel’s lifespan by up to 5 years. The process can recover up to 5% of the solar panel’s efficiency, depending on the panel structure, and requires annual regeneration activity. Gentari and SEDC Energy Forge Partnership to Establish Sarawak H2 Hub for Hydrogen Production Gentari Sdn Bhd, a leading provider of clean energy solutions, has signed a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd (SEDCE) to establish the Sarawak H2 Hub, a centralised hydrogen production facility in Bintulu, Sarawak. Witnessed by Sarawak’s Premier, this initiative aligns with the state government’s emphasis on cleaner energy usage and marks a significant step towards establishing Sarawak as a commercial hydrogen producer by 2027. The partnership aims to develop a global-scale hydrogen production hub to supply green hydrogen to downstream facilities in the Bintulu division. Managed by a joint venture between Gentari and SEDCE, the hub will optimize hydrogen production projects in the region and contribute to Malaysia’s vision of becoming a clean hydrogen hub in ASEAN. Citicore Renewable Energy Breaks Ground For 69MW Solar Plant In Negros Occidental, Philippines Tycoon Edgar Saavedra-led Citicore Renewable Energy Corp. (CREC) initiated the construction of its 69-megawatt (MW) solar power facility in Silay City, Negros Occidental. The Citicore Solar Negros Occidental 2 plant, covering 69 hectares, aims to become operational this year, aligning with the Department of Energy’s second Green Energy Auction Program. CREC President and CEO Oliver Tan expressed that the project would not only contribute to the energy needs of Negros Occidental but also foster socio-economic gains, enhance energy access, and promote self-sufficiency. CREC plans to expand the project to achieve a total gross installed capacity of 100 MW, with an overall goal of adding 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar capacity within the year as part of its commitment to building 5 GW in the next five years. The Philippine Stock Exchange has approved CREC’s P12.9-billion initial public offering (IPO). GDS Joins Malaysia’s First Approved Green Power Offtakers with VPPA Agreement GDS, a prominent developer and operator of high-performance data centers in Asia, has reaffirmed its dedication to sustainability by entering into a 21-year renewable energy Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Cenergi SEA Berhad, a leading solar power producer and renewable energy developer based in Malaysia. This agreement, signed on February 2nd, 2024, places GDS among the pioneering group of green power consumers in Malaysia under the Corporate Green Power Program (CGPP), overseen by Malaysia’s Energy Commission. GDS has committed to securing 22.5MWac of renewable power for its Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus in Johor. Philippines’ Laus Group of Companies Advances Sustainability With Solar Power Transformation Pampanga-based firm Laus Group of Companies (LGC) is embracing sustainable practices by harnessing solar power to meet the electricity needs of its corporate buildings, marking a significant move in its ‘prosumer’ journey. In collaboration with German solar system supplier Philenergy, the company has embarked on a transformative venture to decarbonize its operations, starting with the installation of solar power systems at the main buildings of Carworld Inc. and Corporate Guarantee. The two solar-powered systems installed by the LGC group have a collective capacity of approximately 500 kilowatt-peak, translating to potential savings of up to 50% on electricity bills. Indonesia Introduces Revised Regulations For Rooftop Solar Power Plants The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has issued a revised set of regulations, replacing the previous ones concerning Rooftop Solar Power Plants (PLTS). The newly signed Ministerial Regulation (Permen) Number 2 of 2024 aims to address electricity buying and selling schemes for Rooftop PLTS, introducing incentives while disallowing users to engage in such transactions. Despite this restriction, the government plans to offer incentives to boost Rooftop PLTS installations, as mentioned in Article 13 of the regulation. The revised regulation highlights that excess electrical energy from rooftop PLTS systems entering the network of the Electric Power Network Holders of Business Permits for Providing Electricity for Public Use (IUPTLU) will not be factored into electricity bills for rooftop PLTS customers. The incentives include exemptions from charges, docking fees, and other benefits. Manila Electric Company To Invest PHP100 Billion In Sustainable Energy Projects By 2030 The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the Philippines’ largest distribution utility, is set to invest PHP100 billion by 2030 to enhance energy security and address climate change challenges. The capital expenditures will focus on initiatives such as grid reliability improvement, system loss reduction, transition to natural ester oil for distribution transformers, implementation of energy efficiency solutions, and expansion of electric vehicle (EV) fleets and infrastructure. Aligned with the Distribution Utility’s long-term sustainability strategy, Meralco aims to achieve a 20% reduction in total carbon emissions by 2030. The company’s renewable energy unit, MGen Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), plans to accelerate solar and wind projects as part of these sustainability goals. Meralco envisions a low-carbon transition, serving the growing energy demand with clean power and aiming to become coal-free by 2050.
