Jordan Invites Bids For 5 MWp Azraq II Solar Power Plant
The Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has officially opened the bidding process for the construction of a 5.0 megawatt-peak (MWp) grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Azraq. Named Azraq II, this project is a continuation of the successful Azraq I PV plant, funded through a bilateral debt swap mechanism with Spain. National and international firms experienced in solar PV projects are invited to participate in the tender. The selected bidder will handle the entire project, including design, supply, construction, commissioning, and the initial two years of operation and maintenance on a turnkey basis. As part of Jordan’s commitment to increasing reliance on renewable energy, Azraq II aims to contribute to the country’s goal of generating 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. This initiative aligns with Jordan’s broader strategy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, foster sustainability, and create employment opportunities in the clean energy sector.

SUNPURE, a leading player in solar technology, has inked a significant supply agreement with Powerchina Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited to deploy state-of-the-art PV cleaning robots for the Saad 2 project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This strategic collaboration is set to cover a robust capacity of 1100MW and marks a pivotal step in KSA’s renewable energy initiatives. Situated in the Saad region east of Riyadh, the Saad 2 project is a pivotal component of KSA’s Public Investment Fund 3 (PIF 3). Representing the largest batch of ground-mounted solar power plants in the country to date, PIF 3 aims to provide renewable energy to approximately 750,000 households upon completion.
EBRD And Green Climate Fund Join Forces To Boost Climate Finance In Jordan
In a collaborative effort to advance climate finance and sustainable development in Jordan, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) have given the green light to a USD 4 million investment in Tamweelcom, the country’s second-largest microfinance institution. The financing includes a senior unsecured loan of up to USD 4 million, with EBRD contributing up to USD 3 million and GCF providing up to USD 1 million. This joint initiative falls under the GCF-Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) Regional Framework.
EWEC Unveils Ambitious Plan For 50% Clean Energy In Abu Dhabi By 2030
Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), a key player in water and electricity supply across the UAE, has unveiled its comprehensive plan for Abu Dhabi’s future water and electricity production. The Statement of Future Capacity Requirements 2024-2037 provides a roadmap for sustainable development, emphasizing the transition to clean energy and low-carbon water solutions. The ambitious plan forecasts significant milestones, including the achievement of nearly emissions-free water production by 2031. Utilizing low-carbon intensive reverse osmosis (RO) technology, EWEC aims to reduce the carbon intensity of water production by an impressive 93%, from 16kg/m3 in 2021 to less than 1kg/m3 by 2031. This substantial shift is part of the largest transformation in the UAE’s water production infrastructure, facilitated by EWEC.

Bahrain’s MEWA Evaluates Proposals For Solar And EV Charging Projects by Leading Companies
Bahrain’s Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs (MEWA) has received five proposals in response to its Request for Proposals tender for the development and operation of a combined solar power and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging project, on behalf of the Ministry of Information.
The bidding companies and their quoted tariff rates are as follows:
1. Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo ( USD 0.058 or BHD 0.022 / kWh – accepted with condition)
2. Alpha Energy Generations Co. (USD 0.056 or BHD 0.021 / kWh)
3. Micro Centre (USD 0.058 or BHD 0.022 / kWh)
4. Yellow Door Energy Projects Co. (USD 0.061 or BHD 0.022 / kWh)
5. Siraj Power Contracting (USD 0.066 or BHD 0.025 / kWh – suspended)
The initiative includes the installation of grid-connected solar photovoltaic power facilities on the roofs of buildings and parking lots, featuring a minimum capacity of 2.5 MWac (Megawatt AC). Additionally, Electric Vehicle charging stations will be implemented at the Ministry of Information premises.

El Gouna City And SolarizEgypt Expand Solar Power Plant, Doubling Capacity For Sustainable Energy
El Gouna City, a comprehensive residential development by Orascom Development Holding (ODH), has extended its collaboration with SolarizEgypt to enhance an existing solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant with a capacity of 7.2 megawatts (MW) in El Gouna City on the Red Sea coast. In this renewed partnership, SolarizEgypt is set to invest 200 million Egyptian pounds ($6.5 million) to construct and manage the 7.2MW second phase, effectively doubling the total capacity to 14 MW. The first phase, with a capacity of 7.2MW and an investment of EGP 97 million from SolarizEgypt, started its operations in 2022, fulfilling almost 16% of El Gouna City’s energy needs. The second phase is slated to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the combined output of both phases anticipated to reach 32,000 MWh annually.
