The Uruguayan Ministries of Industry, Energy and Mining, and Transport and Public Works have signed an agreement with the French consortium Setec to analyze the viability of the project.
The Ministries of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) and Transport and Public Works (MTOP) of Uruguay and the French consortium Setec have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to study the viability of a passenger transport service for the train commuter train of the Central Railway powered by hydrogen.
In a statement, it is explained that the study arises from a non-refundable collaboration from the French Government. According to the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Elisa Facio, this initiative combines the commitment to decarbonization in the transportation sector with the study of the uses of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
The memorandum of understanding - the information adds - aims to carry out a technical and economic feasibility study for the implementation of a passenger rail transport service along the first 60 kilometers of the Central Railway. This service, whose feasibility will be studied, includes hydrogen trains.
It is also added that the scope of the study - whose duration will be 12 months, extendable - will include the evaluation of traffic, the demand for passenger transport services, income, the analysis of railway functionalities and operations, the identification of necessary infrastructures, the cost evaluation, economic analysis and decarbonization strategies.
While the Setec consortium is made up of Setec Ferroviaire and Setec International, the project will be financed through a non-refundable collaboration from the French Government, through BPIFRANCE Assurance Export. |
