Work Detail Kenya is setting out plans for US$5.2 billion of road improvements. A major programme of road improvements worth US$5.21 billion is planned for Kenya over the coming five years. The works will be managed by the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha). The programme will see the addition of 1,183km new roads to the country’s network, as well as improvements and maintenance to 492km of roads. A further 27 of structures will be constructed. Maintenance will be carried out to 75,891km of Kenya’s trunk roads, while designs for 5,575km of roads will be drawn up by Kenha. Priority projects will be for the roads linking Thika and Magumu, Sagana and Marua Chemlil and Katito, Isebania and Ahero and Mau Mau Roads. The road development plan will help develop Kenya’s economy as well as its international links with its neighbours, including Tanzania and Uganda, part of a wider programme of road works fostering transport and communication across East Africa.
