Work Detail International renewable energy development platform ib vogt has announced the sale of Italy’s largest solar photovoltaic project to multinational utility Iberdrola. Named Fenix, the 245 MWp solar farm is located in Sicily and is slated to commence construction in March 2024, with commercial operation expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025. In line with ib vogt’s values, the company is committed to delivering lasting positive impacts to the region, encompassing environmental, economic, and social benefits. This includes initiatives such as large-scale reforestation, research cooperation with the University of Palermo on soil quality, and other environmental compensation measures. This project represents ib vogt’s inaugural construction venture in Italy and was meticulously developed by a dedicated team from inception. Careful site selection ensures minimal impact on agricultural land and mitigates desertification risks. Extensive archaeological surveillance has been conducted to safeguard significant cultural heritage sites. Environmental monitoring will be upheld during construction and throughout the solar farm’s operational lifespan. The solar farm will be grid-connected through a 150 kV connection and will utilize state-of-the-art bifacial solar panels with a south-facing orientation to maximize energy production. It is estimated to generate electricity equivalent to the average consumption of over 140,000 households annually, resulting in a reduction of 119,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. Anton Milner, CEO of ib vogt, expressed pride in the project’s success, noting its significance in establishing the company as a leading developer in Sicily. He emphasized ib vogt’s commitment to supporting efforts by major players like Iberdrola to expand their renewables portfolio, highlighting their substantial pipeline of projects in Italy. ib vogt is providing comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, along with future operations and maintenance (O&M) post-completion. The accomplishment was made possible with the assistance of selected advisors, including Dentons, who provided legal support, and Prothea, who acted as financial advisor to ib vogt throughout the project development and sales process.
