FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies, a renowned contract development and manufacturing organization specializing in biologics, vaccines, advanced therapies, and oncolytic viruses, has inked a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Better Energy, a leading integrated renewable energy company in Northern Europe. The agreement entails the offtake of 40 GWh of renewable energy annually, commencing in July 2025, to cover the total electricity consumption at FUJIFILM’s biopharmaceutical manufacturing site in Hillerød, Denmark, including new operations slated to come online in 2024.
As part of the PPA, FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies is contributing to the establishment of a new solar park near Vedde in Sorø municipality, situated 80 kilometers from Hillerød. The solar park is anticipated to boast an annual production capacity of 110 GWh, equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of 68,000 Danes. Beyond offsetting the energy consumption of the Hillerød site, the solar park will bolster the share of renewable energy in the Danish power grid.
Better Energy has collaborated closely with the local Sorø municipality and community members to develop the solar park, incorporating various nature and recreational initiatives, such as 4 kilometers of trail systems and a pedestrian tunnel linking the landscape to the village of Vedde.
Lars Petersen, President and CEO of FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies, underscored the company’s commitment to addressing climate change and supporting Fujifilm’s SVP 2030 initiatives. He highlighted the significance of this agreement in advancing the company’s climate strategy, Partners for the Planet, which aims to power all seven of its manufacturing sites globally with renewable energy upon the completion of projects such as the Vedde solar park and the Blevins (Texas) Solar Project.
Mikkel Thorup, Senior Director of PPAs at Better Energy, emphasized FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies’ dedication to the green transition and reducing its environmental impact, praising the company for its contribution to the development of the solar park.
This initiative aligns with FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation’s goal of operating entirely on carbon-free energy and achieving net zero CO2 emissions by FY2040.
