Work Detail In a significant stride towards sustainable industrial development, the Ministry of Industry & Advanced Technology of the UAE and the State of Baden-Württemberg in Germany officially signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI). The signing ceremony, held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, involved key dignitaries from both entities. His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, expressed the UAE’s commitment to global climate action and collaboration on decarbonization initiatives. The JDI outlines a comprehensive partnership aimed at promoting supply chain resilience, advanced technology, and decarbonization efforts. Noteworthy areas of collaboration include AI, smart manufacturing, smart health, and aerospace. The agreement extends to both public and private sector entities, fostering bilateral relations and encouraging green industrial investments under the Make it in the Emirates initiative. Dr Al Jaber emphasized the UAE’s proactive role in international collaborations, citing the country’s leadership at COP28 and the launch of the Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap. The roadmap, unveiled at COP28, outlines a phased approach to reduce carbon emissions by 93% by 2050, utilizing solutions like CCUS and clean energy across challenging industrial sectors. The partnership aligns with Operation 300bn and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative, focusing on joint investments and technology solutions that enhance the supply chain resilience of both nations. This collaboration also aims to contribute to capacity building and skill development through joint research and internships in priority projects. Her Excellency Dr Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of Baden-Württemberg, highlighted the importance of establishing an efficient hydrogen economy for the region’s future-proofing. Recognizing the UAE’s potential for economic cooperation, Baden-Württemberg established a business representation office in the UAE in 2022, providing support for companies entering the UAE and Gulf region markets. Her Excellency Thekla Walker, Minister of the Environment, Climate Protection, and Energy of the State of Baden-Württemberg, emphasized the role of hydrogen in achieving a climate-neutral industrial society. The collaboration aims to create a common market for green hydrogen, leveraging the UAE’s optimal conditions for solar-based green hydrogen production. Overall, the JDI signifies a strategic and comprehensive partnership between the UAE and Baden-Württemberg, fostering innovation, sustainable industrial development, and climate-friendly practices.
