The last flood of the Paraná River brought with it some inconveniences in sectors of the coast of San José del Rincón. Due to the surge in the Setúbal lagoon, the open-air dump, located outside the defense ring in the city neighboring Santa Fe, was flooded.
Within this framework, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Province defined the action plan for the sanitation of the waste disposal center in the town of Rincón and ordered the redirection of the garbage to the landfill located in the provincial capital.

In a statement from the Provincial government they indicated that “the objective of the initiative is to mitigate the generation of new waste in the affected area, demonstrating the commitment of all authorities in the effective resolution of this problem. The intervention plan includes the closure and delimitation of the garbage dump; and involves, if necessary, the movement of earth to contain the waste in the most critical areas.”
Additionally, once the water level allows for an accurate assessment, the sanitation process will move forward, which includes cleaning, moving and leveling the land, facilitating runoff and preventing future water leaks, with the vision of creating a space open with native trees.
Uncertain times
According to what they said, work times are directly linked to the water level, which is why the phases of the plan will be executed as the water recedes to the usual levels in the area. “The administration will continue to inform the community about progress and adjustments to the plan as the situation evolves,” they reported.
With the Paraná River in the middle of a downward trend in recent weeks, the tasks to be carried out would be easier. So much so that the level in Puerto Santa Fe dropped one meter in the last month and the height is at 4.45 meters.
At the same time, the letter sent by the Province highlights that a request was successfully presented to the provincial Legislature to include the “environmental” character in the Water Emergency law, recognizing the need for specific measures to address situations such as the present one. . The situation found was prioritized from the beginning of the administration, when the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Enrique Estévez, convened the technical teams of the Ministry, the Secretariat of Hydraulics, and the Directorate of Civil Protection, and the authorities of Rincón, Arroyo Leyes and Santa Rosa de Calchines, to analyze the situation and develop the action plan.
Historical problem
El Litoral visited this affected sector towards the end of November and the beginning of last December where the presence of a large amount of waste distributed both in the water and on the coast was verified.
