MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES), an independent producer of renewable energy (IPP) whose largest shareholder is the German MPC Capital, has announced the start of work on its 65 MWp San Patricio photovoltaic plant in Guatemala.
The plant, which in a statement the companys financial director, Stefan Meichsner, presents as its "largest project to date", is expected to come into operation in the middle of next year, with a generation capacity of 141 GWh per year. .
As announced in February 2023, the plants electrical production will be sold entirely to Ingenio Magdalena SA (IMSA) after signing a 16-year fixed-price power purchase agreement (PPA) with Comercializadora de Energía Para el Desarrollo, a subsidiary of the group, the countrys main producer and exporter of refined sugar, alcohol and energy.
The group, which processes 6.5 million tons of sugar cane per year, is also the largest private energy producer in Guatemala, supplying 8% of the countrys total energy consumption.
According to the information, MPCES currently owns and operates five energy production assets in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a total capacity of about 79 MWp, with a proportional participation of 66 MWp.
San Patricio, it is added, “will be an important addition to the production portfolio and will almost double the companys installed capacity,” and is expected to generate revenues of more than $8 million per year, “with EBITDA margins.” greater than 80%”.
The total investment costs for the construction of the plant, including financing and risk contingencies, will be around $42 million.
For the construction of the plant, MPCES claims to have signed a turnkey contract with the Enerland Group, which includes engineering and equipment acquisition. It is not the first collaboration between both companies, since they had previously done so in the construction of the Santa Rosa & Villa Sol photovoltaic plant, of 21.3 MWp, in El Salvador , which began operating in early 2023 after 12 months of construction. |
