Work Detail Punjab Gau Sewa Commission chairman Kimati Bhagat today said the state government would release Rs 22 crore for the development of gaushalas.
After giving registration certificates to 48 gaushalas in the city, the chairman attended a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner and representatives of the gaushalas at the District Administrative Complex (DAC).
In the meeting, Kimati Bhagat said the state government was giving Rs 1 crore to existing or under-construction gaushalas in every district.
He said with this fund, shelters would be constructed at the gaushalas.
The construction work would be completed in two months and in the third month, the stray cattle roaming on roads would be sent to the cattle ponds, he added.
Bhagat said at present, there were 472 gaushalas registered in the state and 2.69 lakh cattle were being taken care of here.
He said till September 30, the commission would hold meetings in districts.
Punjab is the only state in the country, which is providing many facilities at the gaushalas and many cattle ponds were under construction at various places in the state, Bahgat added.
While addressing mediapersons after the meeting, Bhagat said 1.06 lakh stray cattle roam on roads in the state, which would be sent to the cattle ponds.
He said for medical care of cattle at the gaushala, the Animal Husbandry Department had deputed expert doctors.
He appealed to the gau rakshaks to work under the frame of law and if any violation was reported then they would approach the department concerned to take action as per the law.
Bhagat said to build a gau memorial at Joga village of Mansa district, the work on buying land has been initiated and the first instalment of Rs 60 lakh has also been released by the state government.
He said following the instructions of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, tube-well connections were being given to gaushalas on priority and while executing registries, the stamp duty was exempted to gaushalas.
