Work Detail Hanoi’s Department of Transport, China Pacific Construction Group (CPCG) and Vietnam Construction and Import-Export JS Corporation (Vinaconex) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to study and build metro line No.5 and Tu Lien Bridge in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The construction of Hanois fifth metro line, also known as Metro Line No.5 or the Van Cao-Ngoc Khanh-Lang-Hoa Lac line is anticipated to cover a distance of 39 km with an estimated cost of VND65 trillion (US$2.63 billion). This metro line is set to connect four inner-city districts with satellite urban areas. The design incorporates 6.5 km of underground track, 2 km elevated, and the remaining 29.93 km at ground level. Stretching from Van Cao Street to the Hoa Lac Intersection, the line will traverse seven districts, including Ba Dinh, Dong Da, Cau Giay, and Nam Tu Liem in the inner city, as well as Hoai Duc, Quoc Oai, and Thach That on the outskirts. The comprehensive project features 21 stations and two depots. As per an authorized proposal, Hanoi is poised to develop a comprehensive metro network consisting of 10 lines, comprising nine primary lines and one connecting satellite town, with an overall length approaching 420 km, of which 75 km will be underground. Presently, the Cat Linh – Ha Dong line is the sole operational metro line in Vietnam, marking the first and only line currently in use in the proposed network.
