It is projected that starting from the Little Vermilion River towards Bureau County, Construction work on U.S route 6 will be started this summer according to Illinois Department of Transportation .
Construction Cost
Paul Wappel, IDOT Public Information Officer said the estimated cost of project is $ 5.6 million.
Work in La Salle and Peru is scheduled to be done during the construction seasons of 2024 and 2025.
Wappel said, “We do not expect the work to happen over a period of time”. However, it is upon principle contractor who decides on how they will schedule their activities
Wappel stated that the effort would include roadway resurfacing, traffic signal improvements and ADA ramp improvements.
He noted the traffic impacts will be comparable to other resurfacing projects.
“Engineering work is finished since preparations have been made,” he said. “Overall, as with any construction project, traffic will be affected and motorists should anticipate delays.”
The Peru City Council voted in favor of the proposed allocation of funds for the project during its meeting on Monday. According to the officials, it has been a controversial issue over the last year.
Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning stated that the city will take care of resurfacing a couple amenities on.
Carls stated that he and Fire Chief Jeff King cooperated with IDOT to get emergency vehicle equipment integrated into the stoplights.
The price construction of U.S route 6 contains a part for some curve ramps ADA-compliance work as well.
Special Projects Manager Dan Carls said the estimated cost of the city’s share is $237,000 according to an IDOT estimate. But he noted that substantial funds will not be spent on the project until 2025 or more likely, 2016. |
