Work Detail Since 2021, a total of 3,888 families in Malta have reaped the benefits of government initiatives promoting energy transition, receiving approximately €10.5 million in financial support. The schemes, including the Solar Water Heaters Scheme, Heat Pump Water Heater Scheme, Roof Insulation and Double-Glazing Scheme, and Renewable Energy Sources Scheme, aim to encourage the adoption of renewable energy systems and green technologies. Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Regeneration, Miriam Dalli, along with REWS CEO Ing. Marjohn Abela and EWA CPO Ing. Charles Buttigieg, revealed these positive figures during a recent consultation meeting with stakeholders. The government’s commitment to sustainable energy use aligns with global goals, including the COP28 agreement and the European Green Deal, striving for at least a 19% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Expressing gratitude to families for their active participation in the green transition, Minister Dalli announced the relaunch of three 2024 schemes, allocating €1 million to support the installation of heat pump water heaters, solar water heaters, and roof insulation and double glazing. Additionally, a multi-million scheme will be launched later this year to aid families in installing grid-connected photovoltaic systems and household battery storage systems. Ing. Marjohn Abela highlighted the success of these schemes, with €26 million allocated by the government, benefiting over 3,800 families and fostering sustainability in energy use. The Energy and Water Agency’s initiative offers free consultations to enhance energy efficiency in households, benefiting over 3,900 households to date. Another scheme aids vulnerable households in replacing old appliances with energy-efficient solutions. Ing. Charles Buttigieg emphasized the popularity of free home visits, contributing to increased awareness of efficient electricity and water use. The meeting, attended by key organizations, signifies collaborative efforts to drive Malta’s green initiatives forward.
