Fortress Powers Avalon high-voltage energy storage system combines a hybrid inverter, high-voltage battery, and smart energy panel into a comprehensive whole-home backup system.
US company Fortress Power has announced its entry into the residential high-voltage energy storage market. It marked this milestone with the installation of its first Avalon residential system in late December.
The Avalon HV ESS system features a smart energy panel, customizable battery stack, and inverter. The system works indoors and outdoors and is scalable from 14.4 kWh to 176 kWh. It can be DC or AC coupled, with a step of 200 A.
The Avalon system, operating at a voltage of 200 V to 300 V at the DC terminal, perfectly matches the voltage of the PV field, reducing the need for DC to DC conversion, which, according to the manufacturer, improves the overall operational efficiency by approximately 6 to 8%.
The system includes a 7.6 kW or 11.4 kW inverter. It has four MPPTs with a voltage range of 80 V to 520 V and a maximum input current per chain of 16 A.
The Avalon smart energy panel manages large home loads to prevent the inverter from tripping. It can intelligently manage up to twelve different 120V circuits, six 240V circuits, or any combination, providing flexible whole-house backup without a dedicated emergency power panel.
With the integrated smart charging panel, pre-installed AC coupling circuit, 200A step-through, and direct EV charger installation, the Avalon system reduces the need for additional components such as backup panel, AC combiner, the independent smart charging panel, the bypass and others, claims the manufacturer.
Avalon has a lifespan of over 8,000 cycles and a 10-year warranty. The system is based on automotive Tier 1 lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells.
Additionally, for homeowners, Avalon could become a source of income through the companys EnergyBroker program, selling energy in the wholesale markets or for extra energy.
