Work Detail The Río Tinto Proyecto Rincón company thus obtains authorization to begin the construction of a battery-grade lithium carbonate processing plant with a capacity of 3,000 tons per year. The Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Argentine province of Salta has announced the approval of the Environmental Impact Declaration for the exploitation of lithium carbonate in the Rincón Salt Flats, concessioned to the company Río Tinto Proyecto Rincón. In a statement, it is explained that Resolution 09/23 specifies that the aforementioned company, in accordance with obtaining this permit and the social permit, is in a position to begin the construction of a battery-grade lithium carbonate processing plant with a capacity of 3,000 tons per year, for which it is stated that “the innovative direct extraction technology” will be used. The information states that the Río Tinto company acquired the Rincón project, located in the Puna of Salta, at the beginning of 2022, with an investment of 825 million dollars. The company states that this is a large undeveloped lithium brine project located in the heart of the so-called “lithium triangle” (geographical area located on the border of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile). Included in the initial investment are initial works to support a full-scale operation, including the power line and associated substations, the construction camp and an airstrip. Recently, the company inaugurated a Training Center in the city of Salta equipped with a scale plant, classrooms, simulators, practice rooms and instructors intended for the training of personnel who will carry out their work activities at the plant.
