Work Detail In a pivotal step towards fostering a sustainable future, the Power Department of the Government of Meghalaya has formalized a strategic partnership with ONGC Tripura Power Company Ltd (OTPC), marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The signing ceremony, held in Shillong and graced by Shri A.T. Mondal, Hon’ble Power Minister of Meghalaya, brought together key dignitaries, including Shri Sanjay Goyal, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary to the Power Department, Government of Meghalaya, and Shri Sanil Namboodiripad, Managing Director, OTPC. The three-year MOU underscores the shared commitment of both entities to harness the abundant hydro power potential within the state. Notable attendees included members of the OTPC team, comprising Mr. Arup Ch. Sarmah, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Mr. Shree Narayan, Chief Technical Officer (CTO), and Mr. Samarjeet Thakur, Head Corporate Affairs (C & M). Hon’ble Power Minister, Shri Abu Taher Mondal, emphasized the far-reaching implications of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership transcends mere energy requirements; it is about establishing a legacy of responsible energy consumption and environmental stewardship. The MOU signing marks a significant milestone in our commitment to harness Meghalaya’s hydro power potential, charting a course towards a greener and more sustainable future. Reflecting our dedication to innovation and environmental stewardship, we aim to diversify our energy portfolio for long-term reliability and sustainability.” The MOU outlines ambitious objectives, including the development of a Pump Storage Hydro Power Project, large and small hydroelectric power projects, and innovative solutions such as floating solar projects. Aligned with global trends in renewable energy, these initiatives aim to fortify the power infrastructure in the region. The MOU establishes a robust framework for collaborative efforts, propelling Meghalaya towards a greener and more energy-efficient future.
