Work Detail From 2024, solar energy should be the main source of expansion of the centralized electricity matrix, with an additional 4.9 GW expected from large plants. Minas Gerais concentrates both operational capacity and the offer of new projects in the country.Brazil added 10,324.2 MW of centralized generation to the national electricity matrix in 2023, of which 4 GW came from photovoltaic sources. In December 2023 alone, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) registered the entry into commercial operation of 51 generating units, which added 1.9 GW to the countrys installed capacity. With this final sprint, the year ended with a growth of 10,324.2 MW in the centralized generation electrical matrix (excluding own generation systems of less than 5 MW). With this, Brazil added 199,324.5 MW of inspected power, according to data from Aneels Generation Information System (SIGA), updated daily with data from plants in operation and awarded projects in the construction phase. Of this total in operation, 83.67% of the plants are considered renewable. Photovoltaic solar was the second with the highest centralized generation capacity added in 2023, with 104 plants totaling 4,070.9 MW, or 39.4% of the total connected to the National Interconnected System. The source ranked second after wind farms, with 140 units coming into operation throughout the year, totaling 4.9 GW, or 47.65% of the parks expansion in 2023. Among the 291 plants that came into operation during the year, there are also 33 thermoelectric plants (1,214.9 MW), 11 small hydroelectric plants (158.0 MW) and three hydroelectric plants (11.4 MW). These new plants were completed in 19 states located in the five Brazilian regions. The states of Bahia (2,614 MW), Rio Grande do Norte (2,278.5 MW) and Minas Gerais (2,025.7 MW) registered an expansion of more than 2 GW. Centralized solar generation totals 11.5 GW Now, according to SIGA, the photovoltaic solar source accumulates 11,476 MW. Most of this capacity is concentrated in the states of Minas Gerais, with 3.8 GW, Bahia, with 2 GW, Piauí with 1.4 GW and Pernambuco, with 1 GW. There are already more than 7.1 GW of centralized solar plants under construction in Brazil. Minas Gerais is also leading this expansion, with 61 plants under construction totaling 2,652 MW. Piauí continues with 38 plants totaling 1,584 MW and Rio Grande do Norte, with 23 plants totaling 963 MW. Another 5 GW of centralized solar in 2024 By 2024, Aneel estimates that solar power should connect another 4,954 MW, most of which has already begun construction. The forecast exceeds that of wind power, which should connect another 4,253 MW. The total expansion planned for 2024 is 10,815 MW. In 2025, another 5,175 MW should be added, of which 1,493 MW have already begun construction.
