Work Detail Chinese smartphone maker Infinix is considering local manufacturing of laptops in India within a year, for which it is in discussions with original design manufacturers. Infinix is looking at a time frame of less than a year to begin production within the country to comply with the policy changes that will come into effect on laptop imports from next year. Further, the quality of its product will remain a paramount consideration even during local production. The required ecosystem is expected to be in place for the product to be fully made here and meet quality standards. The company is likely to avail the benefit of the six-year production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware products such as laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, servers and ultra-small form factor devices, with an outlay of Rs 17,000 crore, in case it partners with an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) player that has applied for benefits under the scheme. The brand, which is part of the Transsion Group, has been making smartphones in India for the local market since 2019 and ventured into selling laptops in 2021. Currently, it is importing all the laptops it sells in the country.
