The construction arm of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been selected as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the Amaala project in the Red Sea region, Saudi Arabia. This prestigious project, located within the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Natural Reserve, spans 4155 square kilometers and is designed as an ultra-luxury destination featuring diverse natural ecosystems, heritage sites, and upscale amenities.
Once completed, Amaala will boast 25 hotels, 900 luxury residential units, high-end retail establishments, fine dining options, and wellness and recreational facilities. The project aims to have a regenerative impact on the environment, going beyond sustainability.
L&T Constructions role as the EPC contractor involves establishing various systems related to renewable energy generation and utilities. The project is backed by a consortium comprising the clean energy powerhouse Masdar from the UAE and French electricity utility EDF.
The scope of L&Ts work includes implementing an optimized off-grid renewable energy system, featuring a ~250MWp Solar PV plant and >700MWh Battery Energy Storage System. Power systems also involve biofuel-based internal combustion engines, Gas Insulated Substations, high-voltage transmission lines, and medium-voltage distribution networks.
On the water systems front, L&T will construct a 37 MLD Seawater Reverse Osmosis Plant, 6 MLD Sewage Treatment Plants, marine works, tank farms, potable water network, wastewater network, and treated sewage effluent network.
