Work Detail Continental Tyre AS Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Continental), a leading tire manufacturer, is utilizing the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme to implement a 618.75 kilowatt-peak (kWp) rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system in partnership with regional clean energy expert Solarvest Holdings Berhad (Solarvest). The installation will be at Continental’s manufacturing plant in Alor Setar. This initiative underscores Continental’s commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and sustainable manufacturing, aligning with its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. The new rooftop solar PV system is anticipated to offset approximately 536 tonnes of carbon emissions annually and save over 800 megawatt-hours (MWh) in electricity consumption for the plant. Mr. Noor Izwan Ismail, Plant Manager of Continental Tyre Malaysia, emphasized, “Our dedication to sustainability drives our collaboration with Solarvest as we aim for carbon neutrality. We recognize that reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency are pivotal for a greener future. This solar PV system showcases our commitment to sustainable growth and innovative, eco-friendly solutions.” “At Continental, our goals for 2050 encompass various key areas, including high energy and resource efficiency, coupled with low emissions operations. We’re excited to progress in our sustainability endeavors, demonstrating the value of not only producing quality products but doing so in a sustainable manner,” he added. Mr. Davis Chong Chun Shiong, Executive Director and Group CEO of Solarvest, highlighted, “Completing this project contributes to Malaysia’s net-zero targets and aligns Continental’s plant with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). This roadmap aims for net-zero emissions by 2050, fostering a greener manufacturing industry. Renewable energy is anticipated to significantly boost our GDP, with the NETR estimated to generate a RM220 billion GDP increase and create over 300,000 jobs in 2050.” “These investments in green technology signify the collaborative efforts of the private sector and government bodies driving Malaysia toward a sustainable future. At Solarvest, we’re dedicated to supporting this transformative journey by powering critical projects like this one. We aspire to witness broader adoption of clean energy across the manufacturing industry,” concluded Mr. Davis.
