It was decided by the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorian Agency for the Regulation and Control of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources when analyzing the tariff schedule for electricity service for next year. The businessmen propose to modify the regulations and generate more than 1 MW.
The Board of Directors of the Agency for the Regulation and Control of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources of Ecuador has established the tariff schedule for the electricity service for 2024, which contemplates residential, industrial, public lighting, vehicle charging and incentive rates, and includes will continue with incentives for both small, medium and large industries that are self-sufficient with their own generation and avoid the use of energy from the National Interconnected System.
It is worth mentioning that the current situation of the Ecuadorian electricity sector has been classified by the aforementioned agency as "intensive therapy", and consequently it has been decided that there will be no increase in rates for the residential and commercial sectors, which currently reflect an average value of $0.10 per kilowatt hour.
This alarm situation in the electricity sector is explained by the drought that afflicts the country, which has an impact on the low levels of hydroelectric flows that would not prevent it from covering the countrys energy demand.

According to local media, this week there was a meeting between the Minister of Energy and Mines, Andrea Arrobo, and representatives of the industries, in Guayaquil, with the central topic of self-management of electrical energy in the sector.
At that meeting, the business sector proposed that self-generation not have any type of restrictions, in addition to urgently modifying the regulations so that companies can generate more than 1 MW.
It also requests to maintain the validity of current differentiated hourly rate schemes, including the night rate.
In addition, authorization has been requested for companies to access energy generation in their own plants through diesel-powered equipment. |
