Newest 4-star hotel in Chicago, RIU Plaza, topped off
RIU Plaza, Chicago’s newest hotel, a four-star, 28-story skyscraper located off Michigan Avenue in the Streeterville neighbourhood, has been completed by general contractor W.E. O’Neil Construction. The Prime Group created the site, which will be one of just a few in the United States for the Spanish hotel brand RIU Hotels & Resorts.
W.E. O’Neil organised a topping-out celebration to commemorate this construction milestone with the ownership team, design team, and trade partners.
The base of the skyscraper will rise 345 feet and cover two stories, with 23 floors of guest rooms above. The resort will contain 390 guestrooms, a sky bar, one level below grade. Furthermore, a ground-level bar at the southeast corner of the tower base, catering to both business and leisure customers.

The classically inspired edifice, designed by famous architect Lucien LaGrange, stands out among Chicago’s modern construction. Rather of the more common brick or glass curtain wall façades, its unusual material palette incorporates a combination of painted architectural concrete and aluminum-framed windows. Additionally, the building’s contemporary and practical interior will be enhanced by this traditional Chicago School architectural style façade.
RIU has inaugurated the Riu Plaza Manhattan Times Square hotel, bringing the total number of Riu Plaza hotels to nine. These hotels can be found in some of the world’s most important and historic cities.
