Work Detail They will change the design of a dangerous roundabout on Route 33. This is the intersection with Provincial Route 60, near Guaminí. Several accidents have occurred at that site. The work will improve circulation and safety. The national government plans to carry out important works in one of the most dangerous sectors of the route 33 in the southwest of Buenos Aires, such as the intersection with provincial route 60, in the sector known as “Las Cinco Hermanas.” In that place a new roundabout will be built, moving from the current intersection to another rotational intersection. This, it is clarified, will allow an improvement in the circulation and security of the place. The roundabout, located just over 180 kilometers from Bahía Blanca, is known for the large number of accidents - many of them fatal - that occur there. According to the descriptive report of the project, “a rotational type intersection will be carried out, with a total development on National Route 33, including the access and collector branches gravelled in three quadrants.” It will be built entirely of simple concrete. The project also includes horizontal and vertical marking, as well as the demolition of part of the current layout and the construction of sewers. In this sense, it is noted that several accidents have been recorded at the current crossing, especially in recent years, and that although its maintenance and signage is in "excellent condition", drivers who cross from the RP 60 do not usually perceive vehicles passing through RN 33, "causing accidents with serious characteristics for users, due to their crash angle." For this reason, it is explained, it was decided to carry out a readjustment of the most conflictive intersections from a road point of view, in the jurisdiction of this district. Within this framework, a series of interventions will be carried out at intersections (with or without channelized treatment), replacing them with roundabout-type intersections, which are more friendly to drivers. In this way, it was explained, the degree of conflict and the severity of accidents will be lowered due to their low crash angle. Among the tasks that the work will require is land clearing; milling and demolition of existing roadway; the execution of embankments, concrete base and pavement; mountable cord construction; the demolition of existing sewers and the construction of new ones, and vertical and horizontal marking. The collector streets will also be gravelled; The current single and double lighting columns will be removed - they will be used in the scale located on the outskirts of Pigüé - and the metal defense railings will be removed. The type of intersection selected was a modern rural roundabout with a 45 meter radius and a 9.00m wide ring road. The width of the entry and exit lanes to the roundabout was established at 4.50 meters, achieving a balance between capacity and safety, and facilitating the exit of the sector to the detriment of its entry. The central island will be elevated and with a horizontal level, being clearly visible from any vehicle that intends to enter the roundabout. In this case, it will be circular with a constant radius of circulation, promoting a constant speed. As for the collectors, they will only be executed in the northwest quadrant, on the side of Route 60 in the direction of Carhué. The project was announced in recent days and published in the Official Gazette, with envelopes expected to be opened on Tuesday, November 21. The official budget is 341,979,000 pesos and the work has a completion period of 12 months from the signing of the contract.
