POSCO International Concludes work on Posco International Mexico E-Mobility: Its Motor Core Manufacturing Plant in Mexico
Recently, POSCO International confirmed the conclusion of its motor core manufacturing plant for electric vehicles (EVs), known as PI-MEM (Posco International Mexico E-Mobility), which is situated in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico.
Notable figures from POSCO International, including vice chairman Jeong Tak, president of POSCO Mobility Solutions, ambassador Heo Tae-wan from Korea, and Coahuila governor Miguel Riquelme, all attended the occasion.
In order to target the North American market, POSCO International decided early on to establish its production facility in northeast Mexico. They took into account the trade barriers associated with the electric automobile market. Additionally, they aimed to improve their logistical competitiveness. July 2022 marked the commencement of the motor core manufacturing plant’s construction.
How many presses will the first motor core manufacturing plant operate?
The first plant is situated on a total land area of 63,925 m2, or 19,371 square meters. It will run 18 presses. In addition, the second factory’s construction is anticipated to get underway in the first half of the coming year. By 2030, they are looking to set up a system of production in place. This system can produce up to 2.5 million units a year with the help of the second plant.
Electric and hybrid car motors are scheduled to be produced in Mexico. A number of other major North American vehicle manufacturers will receive motor cores built in the Mexican plant.
