Work Detail South Africa’s Transnet has requested proposals to develop, fund, construct and operate a fruit and other break bulk cargo terminal at the Maydon Wharf Precinct in the Port Of Durban. The Maydon Wharf Precinct, located at the ports western end, serves as a mixed-use area with cargo terminals handling dry bulk, break bulk, limited liquid bulk, and some containers. Mainly for general cargo, it spans 145 ha with 15 berths, processing over 7 million tons of goods yearly, including citrus fruits, steel, sugar, rice, and more. Developed in stages since the early 20th century, it plays a vital role in the ports operations. The projects scope of work encompasses obtaining environmental authorizations, water use licenses if necessary, construction permits, and other relevant approvals and licenses. The comprehensive designs and specifications for the terminal must consider various aspects, including storage warehouses for citrus and other fruits, administrative facilities with parking, essential utilities like water, sewer, roads, stormwater, and electricity, rail and road access, cargo operations logistics, internal cargo movement, traffic management, and adherence to safety, health, and environmental standards. The deadline for submitting proposals is January 26, 2024. More information about this tender can be found on our Business Opportunity page here.
