Work Detail Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, will set up a 41 MW captive solar plant at Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu for Tata Power Solars new greenfield 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility located atTirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The captive plant will help generate 101 million units of electricity and offset around 72,000 metric tonnes of C02 emissions annually, besides possibly helping the plant output address supply chain concerns in export markets. The captive solar project will be commissioned 12 months from the signing of the Project Development Agreement (PDA). TPREL has established TP Govardhan Creatives Limited, a specialized entity entrusted with the development, operation, and upkeep of this facility for TP Solar Ltd. TP Solars manufacturing plant is expected to start commercial production of cells and modules by FY 24-25. TP Solar Ltd., is a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy limited. Ashish Khanna, CEO, TPREL, said, Green energy supply to our state-of-the-art 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility from the captive solar plant is a shining example of our commitment to a sustainable transition to green energy. This arrangement will act as a model for all the upcoming solar component manufacturing facilities to source green energy for their production and the resulting domino effect will significantly contribute towards the countrys ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by the end of this decade. With this new captive solar plant, TPRELs total capacity will expand to 7,877 MW including 3,720 MW of projects at different stages of implementation, and an operational capacity of 4,157 MW, comprising 3,154 MW solar energy and 1,003 MW wind energy. TPREL already has a solar cell and module manufacturing plant of 530 MW solar cells and 682 MW modules in Bengaluru. In addition, TPREL also provides electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions across various segments and other advisory solutions across the renewable sector. As on date, TPRELs total renewable utility capacity is 7,877 MW including 3,720 MW projects under various stages of implementation and its operational capacity is 4,157 MW, which includes 3,154 MW solar and 1,003 MW wind. Presently, the companys solar EPC portfolio is more than 11.5 GWp of ground-mount utility-scale, over 1.7 GW of rooftop and distributed ground-mounted systems, and over 1,00,000 solar water pumps. The firm had received the Letter of Award (LoA)for incentives to the tune of INR 383 crore for establishing 4 GW of cells and 4 GW modules manufacturing unit under the PLI Scheme (Tranche II). Further, as per its annual report, as on March 31, 2023, the firm and its subsidiaries have 369 MW of renewable assets in the state, including Vagarai Windfarm Limited with an operating capacity of 21 MW wind farm. TPREL has been proactively undertaking captive solar projects. Under solar PV group captive and rooftop, 203 MW projects are under construction at Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, informs the annual report. TPREL recently signed a Power Delivery Agreement (PDA) with Xpro India Limited, through a special purpose vehicle (SPV), for the development of a 3.125 MW AC group captive solar plant in Maharashtra.
