Work Detail Banas Dairy has signed a three-party agreement worth Rs 230 crore with Suzuki R&D Centre India, and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), to set up four animal dung-based biogas production plants in Banaskantha district of Gujarat. These plants will be built by 2025. A contract conclusion ceremony was held at the Embassy of India in Tokyo on 6 September, 2023, attended by Ambassador of India to Japan, Sibi George; Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan President T Suzuki and key officials of NDDB, Amul and Banas Dairy. The collaboration started in December, 2022 when Banas Dairy had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Suzuki and NDDB. The dairy has milk production capacity of over 85 lakh litre per day (llpd), which is slated to be the highest in Asia. The plants would entail a total investment of approx. Rs 230 crore, and biogas filling stations will be set up alongside each plant for CNG vehicles. Also, organic fertiliser production facilities will be created to promote organic farming. The number of plants can be further increased as per mutual agreement of all parties. These plants are expected to generate green, and align to the vision for net zero carbon neutrality and circular economy, and provide farmers with additional income opportunities. Banas Dairy is among the prominent dairies under the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), popularly known as Amul. The attributes of bio CNG holds the possibility of further utilisation for production of green hydrogen as well as liquid bio methane, as green energy sources.
