Work Detail Byford locals have been provided with their initial glimpse of the awaited Byford railway station’s appearance in their area. The government has shared visual representations of the upcoming station as part of a development proposal that will be open for public input until September 7th. The station is a component of the $797 million Metronet project’s Byford rail extension. This initiative involves the removal of the current Armadale station and the creation of a new station elevated on a viaduct through Armadale CBD. The upcoming Byford station, situated behind the Byford Coles, will consist of three platforms catering to both Armadale line commuter trains and the Australind train. Additionally, a bus interchange, a 400-bay car park, and shelters for approximately 100 bicycles will be provided. Byford’s rapid population growth is evident, with its inhabitants more than doubling from 7,034 in 2011 to 20,600 the previous year. The extension in Byford is scheduled to be constructed amid the contentious 18-month closure of the Armadale line, commencing on November 20. Functional date for the Byford railway station Anticipating a functional line by 2025, the state government estimates a 42-minute commute to the city for passengers. Transport Minister Rita Saffioti noted that the new station’s design incorporates thoughtful lighting and CCTV systems to enhance safety in and around the station vicinity, thereby fostering growth opportunities in the area for years to come. “The intended design aims to provide the community with contemporary and advanced amenities, establishing a swift, dependable, and economical connection between Perth’s southeast and the CBD.” Similar to various other Metronet endeavors, the Byford rail extension has encountered financial challenges due to escalating labor and material costs in the aftermath of the pandemic.
