Construction is set to start later this year on Wilson Tower in Austin, a project that was once envisioned as the tallest building in Texas, but has seen significant downsizing since its announcement. Wilson Capital LP is planning to begin construction at 410 E. Fifth St. in downtown Austin in November this year, as confirmed by Taylor Wilson, founder and president of the multifamily housing developer. The project aims to have the new high-rise, Wilson tower construction to be completed by August 2026.
The initial step of the project will involve the demolition of the existing building on the site, the former Avenue Lofts. The city granted a demolition permit in late July this year and structural demolition work is expected to start in the upcoming weeks. According to the property developer Asbestos abatement work has already been completed at the site. After demolition of the existing building the construction on Wilson tower will start immediately.
Apartments count in the upcoming Wilson Tower in Austin
Initially the building was proposed as an 80-story skyscraper with 450 apartments, but Wilson Tower underwent revisions this spring, resulting in a scaled-down design of 45 stories and 350 units. This adjustment was made due to increased construction costs and interest rates since the project’s original conception.
The Wilson tower construction in Austin will encompass a total of 792,196 square feet, with 398,400 square feet available for rent, as stated by Wilson. The plans include a ground-floor lobby and retail space, residential units with parking from the second to the tenth floor, and exclusively residential floors from twelve to forty-four. The eleventh floor is designated for amenities, a leasing office, and a pool deck, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation dated August 18.
