Construction is underway on a new housing development, Orchard Village Apartments, in northwest Detroit. Close to the Redford Theatre, the project will bring 48 new affordable housing units to the Old Redford neighbourhood. CHN Housing Partners and Detroit Blight Busters are in charge of the project. The apartments will be for people earning between 30 and 60 per cent of the area median income. This is between $492 and $915 per month.
Along with a business centre and communal space, the property will offer Southwest Economic Solutions’ financial and employment preparedness programmes. Further, the apartments will have air conditioning, dishwashers, and in-unit laundries.
The completion date for Orchard Village Apartments in Detroit
By the autumn of next year, it should be completed and suitable for living. LOHA Architects designed the project, and JGJ Construction oversaw its construction. Furthermore, a 9 per cent Low Income Housing Tax Credits award from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority contributed to the $15.7 million development funding. Additionally, the project is funded in part by loans from different banks. These include City HOME funds from the City of Detroit and American Rescue Plan Act financing.
According to Julie Schneider, director of the City of Detroit’s Housing and Revitalization Department, “We are proud to support the development of Orchard Village Apartments, which will reactivate nine long-vacant lots to directly meet the neighbourhood’s expressed need for more high-quality affordable housing.” We are especially pleased to collaborate with nonprofit groups like Detroit Blight Busters and CHN Housing Partners to advance our shared goal of making sure that all households, regardless of income, have a place to call home in Detroit. |
