ArcelorMittal Liberia has started work on new housing units in Tokadeh Mine. Within the Tokadeh Mine concession region, the project is a part of the company’s Phase II Project. The project will include 26 concrete buildings. Winnerford Prout Richards, Phase II Project Infrastructure Area Manager for ArcelorMittal Liberia, described the scale of the Tokadeh housing project and stated that it will be constructed in two stages.
According to Richards, the first phase which kicks off soon, will include accommodation units for 520 staff, a canteen. As well as a gym, a laundry building, a recreation center, one facility management office, a mini clinic, a fence, three security booths and all other civil infrastructure, such as roads, drainages, water, and power supply systems.
He said the second phase which is expected to commence in early 2025 will include additional 520 staff accommodation units. Bringing the total number of accommodation units to 1,040.
The construction site, which spans a total area of 29.12 acres of land, is situated along the main route that connects Tokadeh junction with Yekepa.
Jozephus Coenen, the chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Liberia, made the announcement at a recent town hall meeting with employees that was concurrently held at various divisions of the company’s operations in Buchanan, Grand Bassa, Green Hill Quarry in Bong, the Tokadeh mines, and Yekepa Township in Nimba.
Jozephus said, “Taking care of our employees comes first on the management agenda. We have always made a point of providing our staff with the best and most comfortable working environment. Particularly in the context of the Phase II Expansion project, the construction of these new housing units for our workers is also in line with our strategic business objective. Because of the considerable growth in the size of our personnel, we must upgrade and extend our facilities to make room for it.” |
