After more than two months after work began on the new Paseo de la Laguna, this Thursday municipal officials toured the Néstor Kirchner waterfront to find out the degree of progress.
"The works are going very well. It works mainly with the drainage of rainwater, the defenses. The machines are working at about 4 meters, that is, they are the works that cannot be seen. We already have a 10% execution that is in due time and form”, highlighted the mayor Emilio Jatón and added that this process of water works would be finished in about two months.

Javier Mendiondo, secretary of Urban Development of the municipality, explained that “there are almost 700 meters of storm drains. The idea of ??the project is that the waters converge towards the two ends (of the waterfront). Although we do not see them, the pipes are already placed underground, they are connectors that go in the direction of the streets and what is missing are the crossings at a depth of 4 meters that make the entire artery drain towards the Setúbal lagoon.
"The deadlines are within what was expected and we hope to reach the next (summer) season with a model sector that can be seen finished, in terms of public space, landscaping and pavement that would be the surface part," said Mendiondo.
The work is carried out by the construction company Coemyc SA, under an official budget authorized by the national government of about $833 million. “We had an economic advance and it is with that money that the works are carried out. A few days ago the certificates that went to Buenos Aires were presented and we are in the process of the second certificate so that the work can continue," said Jatón.

Silvina Serra, secretary of Infrastructure and Water Management of the municipality, gave details of the work that is progressing on the banks of La Setúbal: "Prior to this work, the drains had been badly designed, so they were generated gullies That is why now this project is designed prioritizing the beach space that will double the existing one and the (rainfall) discharges will be at the ends so that they do not erode slopes.

Taking into account the arrival of the El Niño climatic phenomenon, which is expected to bring greater rainfall and a significant flooding of the river, Kirchner foresees this situation on the waterfront and will execute embankments. "This takes into account the reconstruction of the original slopes and once they are finished, the protective blankets will be placed (they will be similar to those on Costanera Este)," said the Secretary of Infrastructure and Water Management.

The official recalled that in the projection stage of these works, the municipal technicians held conversations with personnel from the National Water Institute (INA) to consider the water risk that the gestation of El Niño. "Based on the topographic and geomorphological studies of the area, we are advancing in the executive project," Serra specified.
Regarding the deadlines to finish this water part, it is estimated that the slopes and the complete placement of the storm drains will be completed in about three months. While the total completion of the works is scheduled for January or February 2024.

After this first stage of execution, a single 7-meter-wide roadway with two-way traffic will be built, and storm and manholes will be built. The construction of a parking lot that will consist of 13 bays for vehicles in parallel, 103 bays for vehicle parking at 45º on an absorbent surface, five spaces for motorcycles and seven bicycle racks is also planned.
The entire promenade will have Led lighting: 34 street lighting columns will be placed with a lighting arm towards the bike path and sidewalk; and 24 low columns for pedestrian paths. In order for the place to preserve a natural environment, 78 native trees will be planted in a central flowerbed. Concrete benches and drinking troughs will be located in this space. |
