Work Detail Chief Minister Raman Singh on Monday said that progressive farmers from Chhattisgarh will be sent to other States to study new farming techniques.

The farmers had brought glory and national awards to Chhattisgarh with their hard work, he said.

The State bagged ‘Krishi Karman’ national awards four times. It is really heartening that farmers are slowly becoming financially independent. The farmers are involved in vocations of horticulture, fishing and animal husbandry to earn extra income, the Chief Minister said.

Singh was speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the Chhattisgarh 'Rajya Krishak Kalyan Parishad' office-bearers and 'Kisan Sammelan' held at the Indira Gandhi Agriculture University (IGAU) here.

He felicitated farmers, Agriculture officers and an outstanding district as a part of Extension Reforms (ATMA).

The meeting was presided over by Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal.

Parliamentary Secretary Tokhan Sahu, Chhattisgarh Seeds and Agriculture Development Corporation Chairperson Shyam Bais, Chhattisgarh State ‘Gow-Sewa’ Commission Chairperson Visheshar Patel, Former MP Gopal Vyas, Raipur Development Authority Chairperson Sanjay Srivastava, Director of Agriculture Production Ajay Singh, Indira Gandhi Agriculture University Vice -Chancellor Dr S.K. Patil and Chhattisgarh Kamdhenu University Durg Vice -Chancellor Dr U.K. Misra were present.

Singh said that Krishi Vigyan Kendra should be developed as centres of agriculture development.

The officials of Chhattisgarh Rajya Krushak Kalyan Parishad should tour villages and evolve modern systems of agriculture. Progressive farmers should educate the other farmers in spreading modern methods of farming, he said.

Singh called upon the farmers to adopt horticulture, fish farming, animal husbandry apart from agriculture. The youth are attracted towards agriculture which is really heartening.

The Chief Minister appreciated the ‘Mocha Baadi’ Organic farming in Bastar district and sugar cane farming at Kawardha and Pandaria.

Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal said that the farmers who have bagged Excellence awards should guide other farmers in their villages.

The State Government had been making efforts to expand irrigation facilities, provide high-quality seeds and provide remunerative markets for agriculture produce, said.

Agrawal added that Prime Minister Crops’ Insurance Scheme covered farmers crops. Farmers should be made aware of the various social welfare schemes.

He stressed upon the farmers to adopt pulses and oil seeds crops for cultivation.

Rajnandgaon district bagged the award for Excellence under the ATMA Yojana. The district-level farmers who bagged awards received `50,000 cash award and a citation. An amount of `50 lakh was distributed to 187 farmers as prize money at the ceremony.
