Work Detail Among the technologies available in the electrified light car market, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) were the ones that grew the most in Brazil in the last year, according to the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles (ABVE). Plug-in hybrid electric cars (PHEV) were the category with the highest growth in the last year, among the technologies available in the electrified light vehicle market in Brazil, according to the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles (ABVE). The increase was 206% comparing the first semester of 2023 with the previous year. The Brazilian market sold 11,475 PHEV vehicles in the last six months, when it distributed 3,751 units in the same period of 2022. The increase in the number of sales is due to the greater number of models, the expansion of charging points and more information to the market. Non-plug-in hybrid vehicles (HEVs) continue to lead the total number of sales, but the entry of new manufacturers into the PHEV segment has moved the market and shifted market share between technologies. From January to June of this year, Brazil registered 32,239 electrified light vehicles. Light vehicles include passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and SUVs. This figure represents a growth of 58% compared to the first half of 2022, when it sold 20,427, and is very close to sales for all of 2021, with 34,990. The total fleet of electrified light vehicles in Brazil reached 158,678 units between January 2012 and June 2023. ABVEs forecast is that the Brazilian market will generate 70,000 electric car registrations by the end of the year.
