Work Detail Australia’s $232 WA Freeway Extension Project has officially completed its works and is currently open to the public. The road extension project stretches 5.6 kilometers north of Hester Avenue. Thereafter, a new, high-quality north-south transport link was built in Perth’s northwest. It includes new freeway access points at Lukin Drive and Butler Boulevard. As a whole, the extension project’s completion was via a joint venture between Georgiou and BMD Constructions. Meanwhile, it was jointly funded by the West Australian and Federal Governments, with a contribution of $116 million from each. Furthermore, the project also involved collaboration with METRONET. In part, Australia’s $232 WA Freeway Extension Project extends into the Yanchep Rail Extension. Thus, along Romeo Road, a brand new bridge over the rail was built. Australia’s $232 WA Freeway Extension Project Connects To Rural Areas While commenting on the project, WA Transport Minister said that post-COVID-19, it is one of the State Government’s efforts towards infrastructure growth and initiative. Rita Saffioti further added that it will lead to the overall improvement of safety on local roads. Sabine Winton, Wa Wanneroo also spoke about the project, stating that rural areas are, at last, connected to the Northern corridor. This includes Neerabup, Carabooda as well as Nowergup. In total, the project is reported to have supported well up to 1,200 indirect and direct jobs. Taking it a step further, it features impressive public art on two bridge abutments and two underpasses. With the goal of giving the project a lasting legacy to the community, the art’s design was by local Perth artists, an Indigenous artist, and school children. Road development works are said to significantly reduce congestion. A press statement further noted that it aims to improve access, especially for people living within Perth’s northern suburbs. Additionally, Australia’s $232 WA Freeway Extension Project will increasingly ease pressure along the Mitchell Freeway/ Hester Avenue Interchange.
