internal probe will take place after incident at Brazilian wind farm.
A turbine blade positioned at Engie’s Santo Agostinho wind complex in Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil, broke on Wednesday.
The model belongs to Siemens Gamesa’s 5.X platform.
The company has sold more than 5GW of the 5.X generation across the world. This model combines a flexible power rating from 5.6MW to 7MW with two rotors of 155 metres and 170 metres.
As a result of the turbine failure, an internal investigation began soon after the event.
A spokesperson said: “There were no injuries, and a safety zone around the turbine has been established.
“Siemens Gamesa immediately started an internal investigation to determine the root cause of this incident. Until the analysis is completed, we cannot speculate on the cause of the incident.”
Upon completion, Santo Agostinho will have an installed capacity of 434MW, comprising 14 wind farms with a total of 70 wind generator units.
The commercial operation of the first Santo Agostinho will take place before the end of 2023. |
