Work Detail The project in Paysandú foresees the production of 100,000 tons of green hydrogen per year with a 1 GW alkaline electrolyser and the installation of 2 GW of photovoltaic and wind solar sources. The National Administration of Fuels, Alcohol and Portland (ANCAP) of Uruguay, launched a tender for the construction of green hydrogen facilities in the department of Paysandú. The project contemplates an investment of around 4,000 million dollars and ANCAP plans to use biogenic carbon dioxide from the ethanol plant of the company Alcoholes de Uruguay (ALUR). The proposal presented by the international ecofuel company HIF Global has been the winner of the call: it will produce 180,000 tons of synthetic fuels (e-fuels) per year for trucks in the forestry sector using 710,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the ethanol plant of ALUR in Paysandú from 2024. In addition, it will have an alkaline electrolyser of 1 GW of power and 2 GW of photovoltaic and wind generation will be installed. An investment of approximately 1,985 million dollars is estimated for the capture of carbon dioxide, methanol production and the completion of synthetic gasoline; and another 2,000 million dollars will be allocated for the installation of photovoltaic and wind farms and transmission lines. In addition, the company committed to invest $1.2 million in research, development and innovation initiatives. The ANCAP Group expects the participation of more than 3,200 workers in the construction of these facilities. Once completed, it is estimated that the plant will generate employment for around 300 people permanently for its operation.
