PNN 4233
Work Detail According to city officials, a city-wide boil water alert has been issued for the entire city of Vicksburg, causing a number of schools, businesses and the Vicksburg National Military Park to close.

Storms Monday evening damaged power lines serving Vicksburg water wells. This has resulted in a loss of water pressure in many areas of the city.

The source of the damage has now been isolated and water pressure is being restored.

Due to the lack of facilities for park staff and visitors, the Vicksburg National Military Park is closing for the remainder of the day. The park will reopen tomorrow, with limited access for drinking, as it will take two days for test samples to be returned.

According the Vicksburg Post, affected schools in the Vicksburg Warren School District are closing at 1 p.m. Those include the Academy of Innovation, Vicksburg Junior High School, Warren Central Junior High, Bowmar Elementary, Vicksburg High School, Warrenton Elementary and Fresh Start Academy.

The school district sent out this statement:

The Vicksburg Warren School District is following procedures in the schools affected by the August 29th boil water notice caused by the power outage. These schools include Academy of Innovation, Bowmar Avenue Elementary, Vicksburg High School, Vicksburg Junior High School, Warren Junior High School, Warrenton Elementary and the Fresh Start Academy.

Bottled drinking water is being provided to students and staff at these locations and cafeterias will continue to follow existing procedures for safe food preparation.
Porters Chapel Academy dismissed school at noon and the Vicksburg Catholic Schools dismissed classes at 12:30 p.m.

The Warren County Courthouse also closed at noon.
