The Green Hydrogen Sector Fund of Uruguay has selected the H24U Project, made up of a consortium of the companies Saceem and CIR, for the development of the first green hydrogen pilot project in the country.
Green Hydrogen Sector Fund, made up of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU) and the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), has announced the selection of the H24U project, presented by the consortium made up of Saceem and CIR, through which it will access 10 million non-reimbursable dollars to develop the implementation of the first commercial cargo transportation venture that will use green hydrogen as an energy vector.
This is the first project of its kind in the country, for which a total investment of 43.5 million dollars is expected.
In a statement from MIEM, it is explained that the first stage will consist of heavy cargo transportation, "responsible for approximately 28% of the countrys energy demand (according to the 2021 National Energy Balance) and that is currently supplied almost entirely by Petroleum derivatives".
"The project - it is added - provides for the development, engineering and production of green hydrogen that will be used in trucks that will be specially adapted, and will be destined for forestry transport."
In later stages, the project could inject green hydrogen into the existing Paysandú Natural Gas network, an initiative that "would be a first pilot that will allow evaluating its subsequent incorporation on a larger scale in the progressive decarbonization of natural gas networks."
The call, launched in 2022, was aimed at financing and supporting the construction, production and use of green hydrogen and its derivatives. |
