Due to an increase in primary school enrollment in the city, a new primary school will be established in the Jaje area, of Tanga City’s Duga Ward at a cost of 540.3 million shillings.
With funds from the initiative to improve access to equitable opportunities in the best learning of Early Education and Primary Tanzania Mainland (BOOST), a new primary school will be established next to Jaje Primary School.
The development and bolstering of the city’s pre-primary as well as primary education have received 940 million shillings from BOOST. This is according to a statement made by Musa Laban, Head of the City Council’s Communications Unit.
BOOST is a component of the Education Programme for Results (EPforR II), a revolutionary, results-based financing program. It is backed by the World Bank, the Swedish Government (SIDA), and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). Also, the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is backing the program.
A two-stream school with two rooms for classes in pre-primary education is currently being prepared. This comes along with all of the required facilities, such as toilets.
Laban asserts that in order to introduce the Tanga City Boost Project to the community and local government administration, the Ward Development Committee (WDC) and the Jaje area leadership met jointly in the project’s early phases.
According to Laban, the community was enlightened about the project. It learned that funding had been received at their school to build a new facility.
The ward has four primary schools. Jaffar Mohamed, a Duga Ward Councillor, expressed gratitude to the government for providing them with a new school. He added that many children are still missing out on enrollment.
How the new primary school will impact the area
According to Mohamed, the new school’s construction will address the problem of classroom overcrowding.
The school is being built using a Pay for Results (P for R) system. Construction is anticipated to be completed by or on June 30, 2023.
Additionally, 12 new classrooms will be built for a total of 300 million shillings using BOOST funds at the Bombo, Mabawa, Mapambano, and Msara Primary Schools, with each school receiving three new classrooms.
As part of the BOOST program, two new pre-primary school classrooms will be constructed at Mapojoni Primary Schools for a total of 89 million. The BOOST program will also involve the construction of fifteen more toilets. |
