Work Detail The first phase of the Noida International Airport is likely to be completed and open for commercial flights by the end of 2024. According to Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia, trial flights are expected four-to-six months prior. This phase of the airport is spread over an area of over 1,300 hectares. It features a 3,900-metre-long runway and a terminal building with an annual passenger handling capacity of 1.2 crores. According to Scindia, the start of operation of Noida International Airport will open the doors of prosperity in the surrounding areas. It will also open the possibilities of employment and self-employment for the local residents. Acquisition of land for the second phase to begin in July Meanwhile, the acquisition of approximately 1,180 hectares of land for the second phase of the project is expected to begin in July. In preparation, the UP government has issued a notification to set up townships in Falaida Cut and Modal Pur. These townships will be set up on approximately 230 hectares of land. They will be used to rehabilitate the villagers from whom the land will be acquired for the second phase of Noida International Airport. Moreover, the government has issued a notification for people to file objections. The objections, if any, will be addressed after which the process of handing out compensation and taking possession of the land will begin. The land will be acquired in six villages. These villages are Karauli Bangar, Dayanatpur, Kuraib, Ranhera, Mundrah, and Birampur. Approximately 13,000 families are likely to be affected. The second phase of Noida International Airport will require a total of 1,365 hectares, 183 hectares are already available. Noida International Airport project overview Noida Jewar International Greenfield Airport, also known as Delhi Noida International Airport or Jewar Airport project is being developed through a public-private partnership model (PPP) near the town of Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, India. With the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) as the project implementing agency on behalf of the government of Uttar Pradesh, the Noida International Greenfield Airport project is being implemented in four phases. The first phase, which involves capital investment to the tune of US$ 730.5M or its thereabouts, will see the construction of one 3900m runway, one 101,590sqm passenger terminal, 28 aircraft parking stands, and other airport support facilities on a 1,334 hectares piece of land. The airport, following the completion of its initial phase, will have the capacity to serve 12 million passengers a year and it will allow the diversion of a portion of the IGI airport’s passenger traffic.
