The Cabinet Council of the government of Panama has endorsed the contract between the University of Panama and the company Greenwood Energy Central America for the lease of 80 hectares in Chiriquí where a photovoltaic park will be built.
The government of Panama, through a Cabinet Council, approved the contract through an exceptional procedure between the University of Panama and Greenwood Energy Central America, for the rental of 80 hectares of land in Chiriquí, where a solar plant will be built. of 40 MW.
According to official information, the project "will provide electricity to the main areas of the UP throughout the country, and includes a scholarship program for students, the installation of photovoltaic plants and laboratories for academic use, training on the management of renewable energies, among others".
In June of last year, the launch of the Alma Mater public-private partnership between the University of Panama (UP) and Greenwood Energy was announced for the development of a new 40 MW solar plant in David , capital of the homonymous district and of the province Panamanian from Chiriqui.
On the occasion, it was specified that the framework of said was part of the "Framework Agreement for Academic and Technical Collaboration", through which Greenwood Energy will provide financing to the University for a period of several years to support the continuous development of the energy sector. Panama, including scholarships, research and development programs, training, internships, laboratory equipment, and more.
Once the agreement ends in year 20, ownership of the solar installation will be transferred to the UP for the rest of the plants useful life cycle.
It was also announced that this development will be combined with nearly 30 million dollars of academic and technical support during the first 20 years of operation to promote and grow the future of renewable energy in Panama. |
