Work Detail A Canadian company has signed the rights to production and the option to purchase a manganese mine in Morocco - the mineral used to expand the capacity and lifespan of batteries in electric vehicles (EVs). Manganese is used in the production of steel, among other alloys, and is regarded as a key component in renewable energy storage, especially in EVs. It has seen an increase in demand in recent years and recent reports suggest that it will continue to grow as the manufacturing and demand for EVs increases. Elcora, through its Ermazon SARL wholly owned subsidiary, announced that it had signed a "binding agreement with exclusive long term mining production rights and option to purchase the 16 km2 manganese mining concession ("deposit") in Morocco." "This manganese deposit had been mined until a few years ago when COVID-19 crisis strict rules prevented further development. The artisanal production run rate at the deposit was then approximately 2,500 metric tons/month, our local team believes there is potential for more by adding appropriate equipment/ the company said-Combined with Elcoras own manganese ore Atlas Fox Deposit, the Moroccan mine would bring the companys overall manganese ore production capacity to more than 5,000 metric tons a month. Manganese increases battery life of EVs "Manganese, a key component in the production of steel and other alloys, is gaining attention for its potential in renewable energy storage," Elcora said-Recent studies have shown that manganese-based compounds can be used in lithium-ion batteries to improve their efficiency and stability, the company said. "These batteries, commonly used in consumer electronics and electric vehicles (EV), have a limited storage capacity and can be expensive to produce. However, by adding manganese to the batterys cathode, researchers have been able to increase its storage capacity and extend its lifespan."
