Work Detail EXCLUSIVE: From inter-faith compounds and field hospitals to the world’s longest urban highway, February showcased a good selection of new projects we should expect to start in the coming year Already on the third month of 2023, we welcome yet another promising month for the construction industry as we close the doors to February. With 15 new projects set to launch in the subsequent years, the previous month brought exciting news to our feeds, introducing various types of projects from prominent entities in the sector. From the biggest clean energy project in Jordan to the largest modern downtown in Riyadh, the list this month is exciting as we run down the top 15 project launches you need to look out for. Some of the companies that stood out this month include Emaar Properties, Jeddah Historical District Program, OMRAN Group, Masdar, New Murabba Development Company, Red Sea Global, and many more. The Middle East’s top project launches in February 2023 were: 1. Abrahamic Family House, Abu Dhabi Type: Inter-faith compound To feature a mosque, church, and synagogue The UAE’s first interfaith building has been inaugurated, shared HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Twitter. Sheikh Mohamed says the UAE is dedicated to advancing “mutual respect, comprehension, and diversity” as Abu Dhabi is set to unveil its multi-faith place of worship, the Abrahamic Family House on Saadiyat Island. Sheikh Mohamed added that the UAE remains committed to harnessing the power of mutual respect, understanding and diversity to achieve shared progress. 2. URB: THE LOOP Type: Sustainable urban highway 93km-long The Loop is a climate-controlled year-round structure designed to promote cycling and walking as a primary mode of transport for people in Dubai, said developer URB. The project aims to connect more than 3 million residents using a healthy mode of transport, to key services and locations by walking and cycling within minutes. The project is in line with Dubai’s ambition of becoming a 20-minute city, where residents are able to access daily needs and destinations within 20 minutes by foot or bicycle. 3. Masdar, Taaleri JV: Baynouna Solar Park Type: Largest clean energy project in Jordan 200-megawatt (MW) park The Baynouna Solar Energy Company (BSCE), a joint venture between the UAE’s world-leading renewable energy company, Masdar, and Finnish investment and asset management group Taaleri, has announced the formal inauguration of the 200-megawatt (MW) Baynouna Solar Park – the largest clean energy project in Jordan. Developed through a power purchase agreement between Masdar and National Electric Power Company, Jordan’s state electricity provider, the Baynouna Solar Park produces over 560 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy annually – enough to power 160,000 homes. The plant also displaces 360,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to taking nearly 80,000 cars off the road. Click here to read more. 4. Al Othaim Investment Company: Konoz (Box of Treasures) Type: Mixed-used development 50,000m2 area The $1.86 billion Konoz (Box of Treasures) project has been launched by Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Al Othaim Investment Company in Riyadh. Designed by Benoy, the project is a mixed-use development comprised of an entertainment city, a luxury hotel and residential offerings, in addition to commercial, F&B and retail outlets. The project’s name is inspired by gemstones and is meant to convey the visual and architectural representation of gemstones in the development’s various zones. Click here to read more. 5. UAE National Railway Network Type: Infrastructure 38 locomotives, 1,000 wagons HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched the UAE National Railway Network which has a freight fleet comprised of 38 locomotives and more than 1,000 wagons capable of transporting all types of goods. The UAE National Railway Network was inaugurated at the main centre for control and maintenance in Al Fayah region, Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Mohammed, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said the national railway network is an important milestone in the UAE’s development journey, and an ambitious project that contributes to strengthening the country’s preparations for the future. New Murabba Development Company: New Murabba Type: Modern downtown 25 million m2 of floor area HRH Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz has launched the New Murabba Development Company (NMDC) to develop New Murabba, planned to be the largest modern downtown in Riyadh and contribute to the city’s future development in line with Saudi Vision 2030. The New Murabba project will be built around the concept of sustainability, featuring green areas and walking and cycling paths that will enhance the quality of life by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and community activities. It will also feature an iconic museum, a technology and design university, a multipurpose immersive theatre, and more than 80 entertainment and culture venues. Click here to read more. 7. Taraf: Luce Type: Residential development Taraf, the recently-launched real estate division and prime residential property developer of Yas Holding, has revealed its first property – Luce, a new landmark on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, offering contemporary luxury and an enhanced living experience. Luce guarantees waterfront views over Dubai’s coveted blue waters and private beach access to Palm Jumeirah. The building’s design is inspired by nature, the beach, and the sand’s curves and organic lines, and takes its cues from the fluidity within both Dubai’s desert and seascapes. Emirati Relief Field Hospital, Turkiye Type: Field hospital to receive earthquake victims 40,000m2, 50 beds Immediately after the arrival of medical, technical, and administrative teams, the Emirati Relief Field hospital in Gaziantep began its humanitarian mission by receiving victims of the earthquake that hit Turkiye recently. The hospital is located in an area measuring 40,000m2 and has 50 beds and four ICU beds, and is the first (Level III) field hospital in Turkiye, contributing to local humanitarian relief efforts. Marson Group: Electric car factory To be located in Salman Industrial City Marson Group has announced plans to develop a factory that will produce electric cars in Bahrain. The Bahraini business and project development company has formed a partnership with Gauss Auto, an American manufacturing corporation, to deliver the factory. With a timeline of 10 months for construction and operation, the new plant will be located in Salman Industrial City in the American Trade Zone. It will operate under the name Gauss Auto Bahrain. Majid Al Futtaim: Snow Oman Type: Indoor Snow Park 14,830m2 Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment has announced the official opening of Snow Oman, its third indoor snow park in the region, thus marking another milestone in its investment strategy in the Sultanate. Strategically located in Mall of Oman and covering a sprawling area of 14,830m2, Snow Oman is the largest indoor snow park in the MENA region and the first and only indoor snow destination in the sultanate, said Ignace Lahoud, CEO, MAF, while speaking at the launch. Emaar Properties: Ramhan Island Type: Island development 1,800 beach villas, 1,000 residences, 1 hotel Mohamed Alabbar, the founder of Dubai’s leading developer, Emaar Properties, has been reported by Arabian Business to launch a new $3.5 billion island project in Abu Dhabi. The project will be called ‘Ramhan Island’ and will feature 1,800 beach villas, 1,000 branded residences, a hotel, and a marina. Emirates: New training facility Type: Training facility for Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X 5,882m2 A budget of $135 million has been allocated for a new Emirates training facility for future Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft in Dubai that will be completed by March 2024. The new Emirates training facility will span 5,882m2 and have six full flight simulator bays (FFS) for the Airbus and Boeing jets. The new Emirates training facility will be adjacent to the existing Emirates Training Facilities in Dubai, which will provide a great integration and close proximity to all the other pilot training centres. Jeddah Historic District Program (JHD): Waterfront Project Type: Waterfront development The project is part of the larger Jeddah Historical Rejuvenation Project, launched in September 2021 by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Offering sincere gratitude and appreciation for HRH the Crown Prince’s consistent support to preserve, restore and rejuvenate historic sites, HH Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan Al Saud, the Minister of Culture, said that the two-year project will reconnect the Red Sea with Al Balad – downtown Jeddah’s popular moniker – and vitalise the historic Al Bunt Port. Red Sea Global: Clinique La Prairie Type: Exclusive health resort 13 villas, 52 rooms Red Sea Global (RSG) has announced a partnership with the leading longevity clinic and wellness brand, Clinique La Prairie. The partnership involves the development of a high-end 36,115 sqm Clinique La Prairie Health Resort within Amaala, which is located on Saudi Arabia’s north-western coastline. The exclusive resort will offer 13 villas, as well as housing 52 rooms and suites. The resort also features a diagnostics lab, museum, beach club, workshop and training rooms, private dining space, and even a cooking school, ensuring visitors can embark on an inimitable journey of rejuvenation and self-discovery. OMRAN Group: Zipline project, Oman Type: Dual zipline project 1,800m-long The Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group) has announced the soft opening for the 1,800-metre dual zipline project in the Wilayat of Khasab, in the Governorate of Musandam. This project is part of an integrated adventure centre designed to offer tourists unique experiences that combine adventure and exploration. The Oman Adventure Centre was designed to accommodate a broad range of facilities, providing visitors with an integrated tourism experience. It has a waiting area and more facilities.
