This is an installation that feeds the Radio Spectrum Remote Monitoring Station, located in the Barahona province, in the south of the country. The project has been carried out jointly by the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) and the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Mimarena).
According to a statement, the photovoltaic system will significantly reduce operating costs, for maintenance and fuel, in addition to allowing the monitoring station to function "completely with solar energy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year." year”, said the president of the Indotel Board of Directors, Nelson Arroyo, during the opening ceremony.
Arroyo also explained that the station, located in the La Guázara municipal district, had lacked commercial energy since 2009 and operated only 10 hours a day, which caused the complex to frequently go out of service, both because it was not designed for continuous use and for failures or maintenance.
“Today we take a new step forward and we are committed to the generation of alternative or clean energy, which allows cost savings associated with maintenance and fuel, reduces the carbon footprint and reduces environmental pollution, which translates into a benefit for our planet”, added the president of the Indotel Board of Directors.
The installation of the photovoltaic system, of which no further information has been provided, has been the result of a national tender, awarded by the company RAAS Solar, with an offer of 3.2 million Dominican pesos (almost 58 thousand dollars). It is estimated that the investment will be amortized in a year and a half, with an estimated useful life of a decade. |
